Robbie Keane believes that Jadon Sancho has earned a place in Erik ten Hag’s EFL Cup final squad after his performance against Leicester.

Ten Hag has carefully managed Sancho’s minutes since his return to action and he managed to make an impact from the bench against Leicester.

and so he introduced Sancho as a half-time substitute.

Sancho himself did well in the second half as Man United managed to remain in control of the game.

The winger wrapped up the game in the 61st minute after a well-worked team goal which saw him and Bruno Fernandes linking up.

Keane was impressed with the impact Sancho had from the bench and he thinks he deserves a shot against Newcastle in the cup final.

“It was very good from the manager bringing Sancho on,” Keane told Sky Sports. “He played great, I think it was Sancho that changed the game. It helped.

“He brought a different dynamic to the game. He looks back to himself, he looks sharp. He played his way into the team for the final for next week with that.”

Sancho now has four league goals to his name this season and he has come back into form at the perfect time for Man United.

Ten Hag picked out Sancho for praise in his post-match press conference with Sky Sports.

“He is in the right direction,” Ten Hag explained. “He does not know his limits and there’s a lot of space for improvement, though already he is at a high level.”

The Man United manager recognised that his side were not at their best during the first half, but they managed to get the result over the line in the end.

“We’re happy with the result, it’s a great result. When you play every third day you can’t always get to your same performance. Today was really tough,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports.

“Luckily we had half-time, we could repair some things and the second half was brilliant. There was a lot of pleasure, it was enjoyable to watch how we created so many chances and scored great goals.”

Next up for Man United is the second leg of their Europa League tie against Barcelona before they face Newcastle in the EFL Cup final at Wembley.
