Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Füllkrug scored his tenth goal in just his twelfth appearance for the German national team. Julian Brandt and Salih Özcan were the two other Borussians on the pitch at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium for Germany’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Turkey.

Füllkrug’s goal had temporarily made it 2-2. The 30-year-old prevailed in a one-on-one duel against Ozan Kabak to get on the end of Florian Wirtz’s through ball and placed a smart finish into the near post in the 49th minute. Before that, Kai Havertz had given Germany an early lead, but the Turks had turned the game around before half-time.

After the away side took the lead once again at 3-2, Julian Brandt had a good chance to equalise, but was denied by the Turkish keeper in the 74th minute. Brandt was replaced shortly afterwards, while Füllkrug completed the full 90 minutes. Mats Hummels and Niklas Süle were unused substitutes. BVB midfielder Salih Özcan came on for Turkey at the start of the second half.

There were also substitute appearances for Donyell Malen (in the 80th minute) in the 1-0 victory for the Netherlands against Ireland to secure a spot in the Euros for the ‘Oranje’, and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens for England’s U21s. Bynoe-Gittens came on in the 67th minute) in his side’s 3-0 victory against Serbia.

On Sunday, Ramy Bensebaini (with Algeria against Mozambique) and Julian Ryerson (with Norway against Scotland) are hoping to get minutes for their national sides. Click here for an overview of the international fixtures for BVB’s first team players.
