#RBLBVB again!

A matchup between RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund has been one of the top games in the Bundesliga for almost eight years. Like next Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Germany time at Red Bull Arena in a direct fight for fourth place.

Both teams have met each other a total of 17 times since September 2016. The matchup is quite balanced. From 15 games in the league and two matches in the DFB Cup, the Red Bulls won seven games, BVB won eight games and two games ended in a draw.

Three victories by our boys remain particularly fondly remembered!

Naby Keita fires RBL to 1st Bundesliga victory

Saturday evening, 6:30 p.m., a sold-out Red Bull Arena: Everything was set for our first home game as a newly promoted Bundesliga team. The previous opening match had already been a success with a 2:2 draw at TSG Hoffenheim, and with our own fans behind us we wanted to take the euphoria with us. Our opponent for our premier: BVB.

Driven by 42,959 spectators, our boys held a goalless draw until shortly before the end and then launched a final offensive. And it worked! In the 89th minute, Emil Forsberg saw Oliver Burke, who in turn found Naby Keita in the penalty area. The current Bremen player didn’t hesitate and fired the ball into the net. Nothing more happened, the final whistle, the final score, the first ever Bundesliga win!

And what a golden touch from our then coach Ralph Hasenhüttl? Emil Forsberg, Oliver Burke and Naby Keita were substituted on beforehand.

Marco Rose celebrates a perfect debut

Exactly six years later, another unforgettable duel between the two clubs was to take place: Marco Rose took over as head coach at RB Leipzig before the 6th matchday of the 2022/23 season. Just three days later, he made his debut against Borussia Dortmund, of all teams, his former club.

The pressure was immense, and so was the relief after the game. RBL delivered a convincing performance over 90 minutes and won 3-0. Willi Orban nodded in after a corner (6th minute), Dominik Szoboszlai followed up with a dream goal from distance (45th minute). Amadou Haidara only had to tap it in in the 84th minute to seal the dream debut.

Today, Marco Rose has 37 Bundesliga wins in 59 games, putting him on a par with current national coach Julian Nagelsmann. Rose’s points average is 2.03 per game.

Red Bull Arena is shaking!

Almost a year ago today we were able to experience one of the many magical cup nights that we’ve celebrated together. The game obviously came at exactly the right time, as the Red Bulls played a strong 90 minutes on the field, including an outstanding first half!

Leipzig played and ran the Black and Yellows into the wall with aggressive pressing from the kick-off, Timo Werner secured the well-deserved lead after just over 20 minutes. However, we couldn’t find the second goal for a long time, so the game remained close.

And as is often the case in football, BVB almost equalised with their first chance to score in the seventh minute of injury time. However, Janis Blaswich made a brilliant save against Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and parried the ball for a corner.

We capitalized on that. The Dortmund goal was empty and the counterattack was underway. Kevin Kampl crossed the ball to Willi Orban and our captain put the final touch to the celebrated goal. Two months later we were able to defend our title in the DFB Cup.

Willi taps in!
