Liverpool blow as Chelsea managerial plans provide ‘renewed optimism’ for Mason Mount deal

Liverpool could be dealt another blow as a report reveals there’s a ‘renewed sense of optimism’ at Chelsea over contract extension talks with Mason Mount.

Mount has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, and there have been suggestions that the England international has become the Reds’ top target after they

But a report by 90min suggests Jurgen Klopp’s side could also be disappointed in their bid to land Mount.

The midfielder is approaching the final year of his contract and has been warned by Chelsea that he will be sold in the summer if they can’t come to an agreement on an extension.

But there is ‘a renewed sense of optimism’ at Stamford Bridge with the ownership believing their plans for the future are ‘impressive enough’ to convince Mount to remain at the club.

Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are thought to be the frontrunners to be at the helm next season but the recruitment process is said to be a thorough one.

And 90min claim that ‘Mount is understood to be feeling more confident about the future of the club thanks to Chelsea’s managerial plans’.

The report states that although an agreement ‘remains some way away’ Chelsea are thought now to be willing to offer Mount a shorter contract, having tied Ben Chilwell down to a four-year deal, rather than the six to eight year deals they have been handing out so far this season.

Liverpool aren’t alone in being credited with an interest in Mount, with Arsenal and Manchester United also said to be considering him, but Klopp’s side are said to have made most contact with his representatives.

And news of progress in talks between Chelsea and Mount will come as another blow for Liverpool in the same week as their bid for Bellingham has seemingly come to an end.
