Eintracht Frankfurt

Matchday in focus: Sporting Clube de Portugal

It’s likely that Sporting coach Rúben Filipe Marques Amorim will send out his team in a 3-4-3 formation. That’s the standard formation under the 37-year-old, which also led to a 3-0 success over Frankfurt in the reverse fixture.

Eintracht Frankfurt

“Self-belief and fighting spirit”

You scored our first goal en route to the Europa League title last season, and what an important one it was! How often do you think back to that campaign?
“It was such a great moment and one that I’ll remember for the rest of my career and the rest of my life. That 1-0 win in Antwerp was the start of an incredible journey. Frankfurt still occupies a big place in my heart.”

Eintracht Frankfurt

“Proud of the performance”

Jesper Lindström: “That’s football. It’s about scoring goals and Dortmund scored one more than us. We deserved to score more, though. If you can say that after playing a team like Dortmund then it says a lot about the way we played. Obviously we’re disappointed because we really wanted to win. But now we have to look forward right away to the game against Sporting on Tuesday.”

Eintracht Frankfurt

Matchday in focus: Borussia Dortmund

BVB boss Edin Terzic, who was born just 25 kilometres from Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park, began his scouting and coaching career at Borussia at just 27 years of age. After a successful stint at the helm during the 2020/21 campaign – which included victory in the DFB Cup final – he was reappointed as Dortmund’s head coach last summer.

Eintracht Frankfurt

“We need our full repertoire”

…opponents Borussia Dortmund: “We obviously want to celebrate a home win, but Dortmund have really hit their stride since losing at Union and played very well against Stuttgart and Manchester City – they also haven’t conceded a goal in three games. I think BVB have adopted a slightly different style of play under Edin Terzic, including a very good counter-attacking game with great pace through Karim Adeyemi, Youssoufa Moukoko and Jude Bellingham. We have to be on our guard there. It’s going to be a difficult task for us.”
