Werder hand Schalke the win

Werder Bremen were defeated 2-1 away from home by Schalke. The match picked up pace straight away and both sides wanted to dominate the game. Werder showed more composure and were compact, giving Schalke hardly any opportunities. SVW deservedly took the lead through Marvin Ducksch (18’), but Schalke were still managing to get forward, only for Werder’s defence to stand strong. In the second half, Schalke came out full of energy, but Werder were content at first to defend their lead. The hosts knew how to counteract this, and scored twice in the final period, first through Sepp van den Berg (81’) and then Dominick Drexler (90+2’), ultimately deserving to win. It was especially hard to take since Werder came so close to finding the winner right before conceding in injury time.

What a game! SV Werder Bremen beat Hertha BSC 4-2 (2-0). In the first half, the hosts were barely in the game. A brace from Marvin Ducksch (6’, 27’) put Werder firmly ahead, before Hertha stepped up a gear in the second half. Although Marvin Ducksch (51’) scored again and Mitchell Weiser (63’) increased the lead to 4-0, Hertha came back. Jessic Ngankam scored the first goal for the “Old Lady”, before Dodi Lukebakio converted from the penalty spot to make it 4-2 (79’). In the end, however, SVW were too solid in defence and Ole Werner’s side deserved to take three important points back home.
