Füllkrug scores a brace in his first start for Germany
Niclas Füllkrug started for the Germany national side for the first time on Saturday evening (25/3) in their 2-0 win against Peru and impressed. The 30-year-old set Germany up for a win with a brace in the first half. “I get plenty of chances in the box and the ball is played into good areas. I’m pleased that we were able to win comfortably,” said Füllkrug after the match.
“I wouldn’t be unhappy if it never comes to that”
Amos Pieper had to work hard again on the training pitch on Friday morning to now enjoy three days off. The 25-year-old had one more thing on the agenda and took the time to speak with journalists about the international break, the national team and the final stretch to the end of the season.
A surprising long-distance runner and the sprint to a record
The last break of the Bundesliga is underway before the final nine games are played. We used the week without a game to take a look at the Werder players. Most readers will know that Niclas Füllkrug is the top goalscorer in the league with 15 goals, but here are some statistics that should be less familiar to some.
Bayern at home on a Saturday night
The DFL have published the dates and times for matchdays 31 to 34. The home games against FC Bayern and 1. FC Köln are both on a Saturday, while the trip to Leipzig is on a Sunday afternoon. The final matchday, which sees Werder face Union Berlin away from home, will be played at 15:30 CEST on a Saturday as normal.
Captain Marco Friedl and three others return to training
SV Werder Bremen will start the week of training during the international break on Tuesday (21/3). Ole Werner and his coaching team will be without six players, who are away on international duty, but other Werder players will be returning to training.
Use this time well
SV Werder have to wait 16 days from the 2-2 draw in Gladbach for their next Bundesliga game. SVW take on TSG Hoffenheim to round off Bundesliga matchday 26 (Sun, 02/04, 17.30 CEST). This is a period of time that Ole Werner wants to make the most of despite having a reduced squad because of international call-ups.
Werner snatch a point at the death
There was tension right to the final whistle as Marvin Ducksch finished with a brace and Michael Zetterer put out a strong performance in goal. In the end, Werder were rewarded for this and earned a 2-2 draw in Friday night’s away match against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Green-Whites equalised twice through Marvin Ducksch (65’, 89’) after Marcus Thuram (48’) and then Florian Neuhaus (73’) put the Foals ahead.
“We worked hard for a point”
Behind twice, and two equalisers. SV Werder Bremen will be satisfied to take a point home with them after a 2-2 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Here are Ole Werner and the players’ reactions to the match.
Füllkrug called up to the Germany national team squad again
After his first-ever call-up last year, Germany head coach Hansi Flick has once again called upon Niclas Füllkrug for Germany’s upcoming friendlies. Alongside the 30-year-old, Ilia Gruev (Bulgaria) and Jiri Pavlenka (Czechia) have also been called up by their retrospective national teams this international break.
Four players to miss the final training session
Head coach Ole Werner will be without four players in the final training session ahead of the away match against Borussia Mönchengladbach (17/3 20:30 CET). While Marco Friedl, Leonardo Bittencourt and Christian Groß are still absent due to illness, Milos Veljkovic is out with muscular problems.
