SC Freiburg

SC grind out win in Bremen

Many of the hosts’ players declared themselves unfit to play against SCF after their thrilling 4-3 win in Hoffenheim last weekend. Skelly Alvero and captain Marco Friedl, who was back in the frame after serving a suspension, replaced Senne Lynen and Niklas Stark in the side. Freiburg lined up with an unchanged starting XI – the only changes were fully-fit Max Rosenfelder and Kiliann Sildillia returning to the squad in place of Bruno Ogbus and Johan Manzambi.

SV Werder Bremen

Captain back in action

Werder captain Marco Friedl had been restricted to watching his team from his sofa while he served a suspension following a red card in Mainz. That is not something he wants to make a habit of. “For the neutrals, that would have been a fun game to watch, for sure. However, for me, I don’t think it could have started any worse,” revealed Friedl regarding the 4-3 win away to TSG Hoffenheim. “I was already very emotional which led to some shouting now and then but after the opening 12 minutes I was only cheering the boys on.” At the weekend, the centre-back will be available once again to the Green-Whites.
