1. FC Union Berlin and David Preu, the club’s 19-year-old winger, have agreed to continue their partnership and have extended his contract.

Munich-born Preu joined Union from Viktoria Berlin in 2019, signing a professional contract after an intitial spell on loan. In three years, the winger made 31 appearances for the club’s youth team, scoring once and providing four assists.

Last season, Preu was loaned out to the Regionalliga club VfR Aalen. For the club from Baden-Württemberg, which last played in the Bundesliga in the 2014/15 season, Preu played 34 games, scoring one goal and winning the Württemberg Cup.

After returning to the capital, the right-footed player took part in the first team’s entire summer pre-season, scoring his first goal for the first team to put them 4-3 up in the friendly against Rangers. The game ultimately ended 4-4.

The views on the extension

“I appreciate the trust placed in me by the club and the management and I am very grateful for it,” said a delighted Preu on the signing of his extention. “I am happy to take on this challenge and will do everything I can to improve every day and work for the good of the team.”

Horst Heldt, Director of Men’s Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin, added to this, saying: “During pre-season, David has shown what he has learned with us in the junior ranks and at Aalen in the Regionalliga. We are therefore convinced that he can fully exploit his potential if he continues to work hard on himself. We are pleased that he sees his future at 1. FC Union Berlin.”
