Man Utd ‘set to rival’ Arsenal and Chelsea for Serie A standout as huge asking price is revealed

Man Utd are reportedly ‘set to rival’ Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to sign Inter Milan and Argentina forward Lautaro Martinez this summer.

The 25-year-old has consistently been linked with a move to the Premier League over the past few seasons.

The Argentina star struggled to make an impact and he was rightly criticised for his performances. But he has since revealed that he was in “unbearable agony” during the tournament.

“When I arrived at the World Cup, I couldn’t even kick the ball, as my ankle was in unbearable agony. I was very happy to see Julian’s extraordinary form because he was able to give the squad something that at that moment I could not,” Martinez admitted.

“At a certain point, Leo Messi came over and told me to focus on recovering, because I would be very useful to the team in the final minutes of games.

“I already felt that ankle pain when playing for Inter and I told the coach clearly what the situation was, so I asked to rest in order to prepare for the first group game. I played against Saudi Arabia with the aid of pain-killing injections, but I still couldn’t train regularly.”

The forward has been in great form since the World Cup, though. He has scored four goals in his last seven Serie A appearances. He now has 15 goals and seven assists in 31 outings for the Italian outfit.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd could well be in the market for a new forward when the transfer window opens up again later this year.

Martinez would reportedly be open to a move as he is ‘very keen on a potential move to the Premier League’.

Inter Milan are ‘struggling with financial problems’ and it is believed that Martinez is one of their most valuable assets.

There is the feeling that a bid of £70-80m would be enough to ‘seal his signature’ later this year. The report adds that his asking price ‘would not be a problem’ for Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd.

The Serie A giants are keen to take Lukaku on loan again next summer so Chelsea could opt to include the Belgium international in a deal for Martinez.
