Manchester United star Scott McTominay is “playing his best football ever” but that’s still not good enough to “play for a top side”.
That’s according to former United defender Paul Parker, who claims the Scotland international can’t hope to have a “regular spot” under Erik ten Hag despite his impressive displays of late for club and country.
Parker told SpilXperten: “ has done well for his country but no one can really advocate for him getting a regular spot in this Man United team, when Casemiro, Eriksen, Fred and Fernandes are there.”
“Man United is definitely a better team without Scott McTominay in the starting eleven. If Man United want to improve their midfield it needs to be with a player from outside. McTominay is not going to improve the team.”
“But we must say that McTominay probably is playing his best football ever right now. The last couple of weeks he has probably had the best spell in his career but I’m still going to say that he can’t play for a top side.”
Christian Eriksen though is crucial to the way Manchester United play according to Parker, who reckons opposition teams “are able to dominate” Ten Hag’s side when the Denmark international is missing.
Parker added: “Christian Eriksen brings a range of passing and he controls the game with his passes, which mentally affects the opponents. His presence affects other teams and how they are setting up their team, when they are facing Manchester United.”
“When teams are playing against Manchester United without Eriksen, they are just taking over the midfield and controlling the game. Opponents are able to dominate Man United, when Eriksen is missing.”
“The midfield looks slow without Eriksen so he is an absolute key player for this team. He is a top player and when he is not playing, other teams believe that they can beat Man United. You can’t find one opponent, one coach or one teammate that doesn’t respect Eriksen for his personality and his qualities on the pitch.”
