Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Burnley manager Vincent Kompany should turn down any approaches from Tottenham after being linked with the vacant managerial role.

The ex-Manchester City captain has been a huge success at Turf Moor this season after securing the Claret’s promotion back into the Premier League.

With that in mind, it would be a controversial move for Kompany to ditch Burnley for Tottenham this summer.

As noted by various reports, the former centre-back is on Daniel Levy’s shortlist of managerial targets.

However, Agbonlahor thinks Kompany would be better off staying at Burnley for at least one more season.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “I can see why they’re looking at Kompany, but if i was Kompany I would say no. Capital letters, NO.

“He’s got Burnley into the Premier League, give it a go with Burnley and even if he didn’t keep Burnley up, what he done with them in the Championship is still going to attract Premier League jobs.

“The way Spurs are at the moment as a club, why would you touch that?

“Why would you leave Burnley… he could, in the summer, bring in the right players and have a good go with Burnley and shock the Premier League.”

“You know like Sheffield United did, Leeds did? He could do that with Burnley.”

The Lancashire club secured their top flight status with a 2-1 victory over Middlesborough last Friday, instantly returning after being relegated last season.

Burnley are also on course to lift the Championship title – their first trophy since 2016 – with them currently sitting 14 points clear of second-placed Sheffield United.

As for Tottenham, they are set to undergo a summer of change with Levy set to appoint a new permanent manager, and

Kompany certainly has the attributes to be a good Premier League manager, so it’s unsurprising to see him considered by the London club.

But, the former Belgium international only signed a five year contract with Burnley last year, which he described as ‘one of the main selling points for me to come here,’ so it would be a shock for him to ditch them so soon.

When asked the links to Spurs and his Burnley future, in a recent interview, Kompany said: “It is not at the forefront of my thoughts at all.

“Wherever I am, in my head, it is always the biggest job in the world.”

On whether he is happy at Turf Moor, he added: “I know the question, but what can I say? I’m not happy? We are 14 points clear at the top of the Championship.

“A key part is I’m always happy, never satisfied.”

After coasting through the Championship and losing just two matches all season, so far, it will be interesting to see how Burnley fare in the top flight.
