Everton and Aston Villa are reportedly ‘in the front row’ to sign Tammy Abraham, as a number of Premier League clubs are ‘ready to present important offers’.
Abraham’s career took off when he left Chelsea for Roma. Indeed, in his first season in Italy, the Englishman bagged 27 goals in all competitions. His best tally in England was 18, two seasons prior to the move.
As such, it seems Roma have gotten the best out of him, and he’s now being tipped for a move back to England.
Reports have suggested he’d welcome a move back to the Premier League. He could be in line for a big-side switch, too: Manchester United are reported to have for the summer.
On top of interest from United, the forward’s former side Chelsea are reported to be in the mix, along with some other sides.
Those include Everton and Aston Villa, the latter another of Abraham’s former sides. According to Forzaroma, it seems that pair are actually two of the best placed to land Abraham.
Indeed, they reinforce heavy Premier League interest, and note that ‘several clubs are ready to present important offers’. Of those clubs, they suggest Everton and Villa are ‘in the front row’.
That’s firstly surprising due to the stature of the clubs, particularly the Toffees. Indeed, Sean Dyche’s side narrowly escaped relegation last season and are just one point above the drop zone at the moment.
Villa are higher up the league, in 11th – one place below Chelsea – so their pull could be stronger. The Villans will also want to back manager Unai Emery and will likely give him the funds to shape his squad.
As such, they’d likely be able to afford Roma’s £66million asking price. For Everton, there’s no guarantee they’d be able to do so.
Their financial situation has not been the healthiest of late. That likely contributed to the fact they signed nobody in January, but did let Anthony Gordon leave for £45million.
Were they to sign Abraham, he’d be a massive addition. Everton’s top goalscorer this season has scored six goals, and the next highest tally is three.
While Abraham hasn’t hit the heights he did last season, he’s still contributed to 13 goals in all competitions. What’s more, he’s shown he can score goals in the Premier League.
