Bayern Munich are reportedly determined to sell Sadio Mane in the summer amid claims the forward wants a return to Liverpool.

The Reds sold the Senegal international to the Bundesliga outfit last summer for around £35m after Mane had made it clear that he wanted to leave Anfield.

Mane scored 120 goals in 269 matches in all competitions during his time at Liverpool with the 31-year-old a key part of winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup over his six seasons at the club.

It has only been one season but his time at Bayern hasn’t gone as well with Mane only starting 15 Bundesliga matches all season with new boss Thomas Tuchel starting him in one match since taking over at the end of March.

And things went from bad to worse recently in the dressing room after their 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League.

Mane was fined at least £260,000 over the incident with Tuchel dropping the forward from his squad to face Hoffenheim over the weekend.

“According to our information, it is an amount that goes far beyond €300,000 (£260,000), so it’s a very, very sensitive fine for Mane,” Florian Plettenberg told Sky Germany.

And it is understood that Bayern Munich will now “try everything” to move Mane on in the summer transfer window with Tuchel adamant the former Liverpool man “doesn’t fit his system”.

Plettenberg added: “From what I’m hearing, Bayern will try everything to offload Sadio Mane in the summer.

“From a sporting point of view, Thomas Tuchel has no plans with Mane as he doesn’t fit his system. This is my information. The player is seen very critically internally.”

Plettenberg’s claims come after reports over the weekend insisting that Mane has told friends that he ‘misses Liverpool’ with Football Insider revealing that he is ‘aching’ for a return to the Premier League.

However, the report also said that Liverpool ‘have no plans to re-sign the Anfield idol’ but ‘the Premier League is seen as the most viable option by Mane and his camp’.

It is understood that a return for Mane to Liverpool is ‘seen by the club as a non-starter given the player’s age – he turned 31 earlier this week – and the make-up of the squad’.
