Reaction to Hertha draw:

Martin Schmidt: “It was very tough today and we found it difficult against a physical Hertha side. We lost a lot of the duels and there we many sloppy moments when we had the ball. Time got away from us and we failed to create enough chances.

Bo made some good substitutions and we started to win more battles and we became more aggressive. The fact that Caci got the goal is superb because he has had to be very patient. It’s a very important point for us. There is a lot to work on, with and without the ball, but the draw makes a our life a little bit easier.”

Anthony Caci: “I am delighted with the last minute goal. You can see that we gave it everything until the very end. We made some changes after the break and brought on another striker because we wanted to pile on the pressure and create some chances. I am fully fit and waiting for my chance. I’m sure today will help me.”

Silvan Widmer: “Hertha made it difficult for us but we also made it difficult for ourselves. We were too slow in the first half but we became a bit more lively after the break when we played with two strikers.

We were on top but we failed to create anything too clear-cut. We fortunately grabbed a point at the death. I think we have to start believing in ourselves again and not be too hesitant and doubtful. We have a lot of experienced players and I’m not worried.”

Danny da Costa: “It was more difficult to play our way into the game but that is normal. We had a lot of the ball because Hertha sat deep. Maybe we could have made more of our possession. We had a clear plan right from the beginning, but implementing it is a different thing entirely. It didn’t quite come into fruition over the 90 minutes and we didn’t use the space well enough. Hertha worked hard but I also think we made it too easy for them. We proved with the equaliser that we will always fight until the end.”

The 25,000 fans inside the MEWA ARENA on Friday evening weren’t exactly treated to a spectacle, but they were treated to a last minute equaliser. Substitute Athony Caci rescued a point with the last kick off the game to send the home fans wild. Despite the late drama, it was still a relatively drab affair.
