Markus Gellhaus (Assistant Manager VfL Bochum 1848): Congratulations to FC Augsburg on the win. We set our sights very high today. Everyone knew that with a win, we could keep the club in the division. I can’t question the team in terms of willingness to perform and get stuck in. But we weren’t precise enough in our build-up play and especially in the final third. We made a lot of mistakes and didn’t pose any decisive problems for our opponents. That was the crux of the matter today, along with the individual mistakes that led to the goals against.

Markus Weinzierl (head coach FC Augsburg): That was a brutally important win for us. The guys implemented our plan very, very well. It was really good for us that we defended with five defenders. Of course, the second goal before the break came at a psychologically important time. We knew that VfL would come back, but we defended everything away in the second half with a lot of heart and good organization.

Anthony Losilla: “We didn’t create many chances today, we simply lacked creativity. Sometimes the last pass or the last cross did not arrive. It would have been nice, of course, to make our survival in the league secure mathematically at home with the fans. Augsburg defended well and ruthlessly punished our mistakes. We have to play better to keep our place in the league.

Armel Bella Kotchap: It’s a bitter afternoon for us. We clearly had more in mind. We started the game relatively well, but then made some easy mistakes that were punished. We had more possession, but didn’t create any clear scoring chances. That’s how you lose 0-2.

Sebastian Polter: In the end, we gave Augsburg two goals. Of course, it’s hard to score in the Bundesliga like that. We haven’t scored a single goal in the last three games. In my eyes, we need not just a point, but another win to make sure we stay out of the relegation zone. The best thing would be to do that directly in Dortmund. It’s a tough task, of course, but we’ve already shown that we can beat such strong teams.
