Samuel Essende handed two-match ban

In the home defeat against 1. FSV Mainz 05, Essende was sent off by referee Sören Storks in the 67th minute following an on-field review. The DFB’s Control Committee bore in mind the fact that Essende’s misconduct followed an illegal offence by opposing player Dominik Kohr on the Augsburg striker.

Leon Goretzka wants to stay with Bayern Munich, Manchester United monitoring his situation

The midfielder struggled to ring together positive runs of performances and seemed to be in and out of favor with both Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel. Granted, he did miss a small handful of matches towards the beginning of the season while he recovered from a knee operation. Still, it wasn’t a season to remember for Goretzka, who the club had offered a contract extension too alongside Joshua Kimmich back in the fall of 2021 under the impression that the two would be cornerstones of the club’s midfield and leadership moving forward.

Midtjylland: Attacking and successful

Following a four-year absence, TSG Hoffenheim will begin their Europa League adventure away to an internationally experienced club. Since their first qualification for the UEFA Cup in 2001, the Danish club have – with a few exceptions – been regular participants in European competition. Midtjylland’s continental highlight was their qualification for the Champions League in the 2020/21 campaign, when the club were eliminated in the group stages but did manage to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw on their own patch. They were hoping to return to the top competition again this season but after victories against UE Santa Coloma and Ferencvaros, the Danish outfit were knocked out by Slovan Bratislava in the final qualifying round after a 1-1 draw and a 3-2 defeat.

Uli Hoeness critical of some of the decisions made by Oliver Kahn, Hasan Salihamidzic at Bayern Munich

The timing of the club’s decision to let both Kahn and Salihamidzic go on the same day that Bayern clinched their eleventh straight Bundesliga title was optically confusing, but by all accounts, both of their fates had been sealed well before a football had been kicked that day. Both Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich questioned why the club didn’t wait a few days to announce their decision, but what’s done is done and Bayern is going into a crucial summer transfer window.

TSG Hoffenheim

An innovative club for their region

This headline could easily be used for a text about TSG Hoffenheim, but FC Midtjylland, TSG’s first opponent in the Europa League this season, also define themselves through innovative ideas and regional representation. The club from Herning, a town of 50,000 inhabitants, is even named after its home region.
