An ankle fracture, a further ankle injury during his recovery and then more recently a muscle injury in the middle of pre-season have significantly hindered the 26-year-old in the fulfilment of his footballing passion. “I can’t simply ignore the defeat,” commented Pieper after the home game against Bayern. “However, it was good for my personal story and my body to get back to playing and to not have any pain afterwards.”
