BVB coach Edin Terzic made three changes compared to the friendly in California, with Sebastien Haller in attack for Youssoufa Moukoko and Donyell Malen replacing Julien Duranville, who got injured in that match – as did Niko Schlotterbeck. New signing Marcel Sabitzer (for Marco Reus) also made his first appearance in Black & Yellow. Following a short preparatory period, SV Werder are set to begin the second half of the season away at VfL Bochum on Sunday, 14.01.2024, 15:30 CET. Werder want to build on their performances before the winter break in the clash against the side level on points with them, whilst they are also keen to open up a small gap on their direct rivals. Werder’s head-to-head record against Bochum gives them reason to hope for a positive result.

We did well for 93 minutes, which is why their goal in the 94th minute is so frustrating. A minute later, Merlin Röhl, who was playing slightly deeper due to Nicolas Höfler’s absence, but who tried to pose an attacking threat nevertheless, headed a chance wide of the target after a cross from Vincenzo Grifo.
