How the teams stand in group D
“Due to the events in Malmö, UEFA fined us. Part of this penalty was that we were not allowed to sell tickets to our fans for our last Europa League group match against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. We accepted this penalty as we are aware of our responsibility for what happened in Malmö. However, the decree of the mayor of Leuven is, in our view, absolutely disproportionate. It suspends fundamental rights and is contrary to both the European as well as the idea of UEFA to organise sporting competitions across national borders,” said Dirk Zingler, president of 1. FC Union Berlin, explaining the decision to take legal action against the city of Leuven.

VfL Wolfsburg continued the improved form they have shown in recent weeks by picking up a third Bundesliga win of the season at home to VfL Bochum on Saturday. Head coach Niko Kovac’s charges comfortably overcame their visitors 4-0 in a one-sided game in front of 24,037 spectators at the Volkswagen Arena courtesy of a Felix Nmecha double (28′, 58′) – his first-ever Bundesliga goals – as well as efforts from Ridle Baku (35′) and Jonas Wind (80′). As a result, VfL climbed to 12th in the standings.
VfL head coach Niko Kovac and his team have another three matches between now and mid-November before the league shuts down for just over two months to accommodate the World Cup in Qatar.
Unbeaten in six matches and on the back of a convincing home win last time out, VfL will be heading off to face 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday 5 November (kick-off: 15.30 CET) with the wind in their sails. Mainz are on equally good form on home turf however, having thrashed 1. FC Köln 5-0 two weeks ago.
