SV Werder Bremen

Five Werder players missing, Agu managing workload

SV Werder Bremen got a new week of training underway on Wednesday morning, as they begin preparations for their encounter with FC Augsburg at the weekend (Saturday, 15:30 CEST). Ole Werner and his coaching staff were without a quintet of Werder players, while Felix Agu completed an indoor session at the wohninvest WESERSTADION in order to monitor his workload.

FC Augsburg

Thorup: “Vital that we show a reaction”

FCA’s clash on matchday 31 will certainly be a special one, with the game also functioning as a celebration of the club’s success in the 1973/74 Regionalliga 50 years ago. Starting from 11:00 CEST, fans will be able to take part in a range of events outside the stadium, before heading indoors to cheer on the boys. Head coach Jess Thorup is looking forward to experiencing the “special atmosphere” present on the day, and his hopeful that his side will be able to bounce back from last week’s 3-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt.

“We have to be ready to give it our all – it’s vital that we show a reaction,” explained the 54-year-old ahead of Saturday’s clash. Thorup is also yet to forget his team’s meeting with Werder in the first round of matches, which saw FCA deliver a disappointing performance and fall to a 2-0 defeat as a result. Augsburg have picked up an impressive 21 points in the second half of the season so far, which they’re hoping to build on in the remaining fixtures. “We’re happy to have avoided relegation, but we now have to continue moving forward.”

Giovanni Reyna scores in Nations League win for USA

The USA won the first leg of their CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final against Trinidad & Tobago 3-0. BVB player Gio Reyna played the full 90 minutes and scored the third goal for the Americans. The return leg will take place on Monday.

SV Werder Bremen

A licence to attack

In the closing stages of SV Werder Bremen’s 2-1 win over Stuttgart, midfielder Romano Schmid stood on the sidelines, looking on anxiously. The Austrian had put in an enormous shift to help secure the three points which moved Werder seven clear of the relegation zone. Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Schmid said: “It was a huge relief. If we’re at 100 percent on matchday and everyone gives everything for each other, we’re a good team.”

Master of Puppets: Uli Hoeness still pulling strings behind the scenes for Bayern Munich

However, a new report from Sky Germany has suggested that Hoeness is still very much involved in the influence of important decisions behind the scenes at the club. He’s never been known as a character to hold his tongue in any situation as he speaks his mind quite freely, even if he hold an unpopular opinion, but it is, perhaps, a little bit surprising, or not surprising at all, how much influence he still has it what was assumed to be a more reserved role.

TSG Hoffenheim

TSG loan Noll out to second-tier SpVgg Greuther Fürth

“Nahuel is a top talent in the goalkeeper position who has a great deal of potential and still has an exciting future ahead of him in Hoffenheim with us,” said Pirmin Schwegler, the Director of Professional Football at TSG, adding: “We have found an excellent solution for Nahuel’s development by loaning him out to ambitious second-tier club Greuther Fürth. In recent years, Fürth have repeatedly demonstrated the courage to back young and highly talented players. Nahuel has a big opportunity to get game time at a high level on a regular basis and to take the next step in his career. Having already had extremely positive experiences working with Greuther Fürth in the past in the form of Marco John’s loan, we’re confident that this loan will ultimately be fully worth it for both Nahuel and us as a club.”
