Erik ten Hag is reportedly demanding ‘more’ from Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho as he wants him to ‘perform at the top level’.

Sancho signed for Man Utd in 2021 from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund for around £73m.

A lot was expected of the Englishman ahead of this move but he has struggled over the past couple of seasons.

The winger was among the players who underperformed last term under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

He made a bright start to this campaign under Erik ten Hag but he was out of action for a couple of months earlier this season.

Sancho scored against Leeds United and Leicester City after making his comeback but he has been in and out of the team in recent weeks. He made a brief half-hour cameo in the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United over the weekend.

Fabrizio Romano claims Ten Hag ‘wants more from Sancho’. The player has been ‘protected’ by the Dutchman and the club’s hierarchy but there

‘I’m sure Erik ten Hag wants more from Jadon Sancho but he’s always been supportive with Jadon, especially in his difficult moments during October and November,’ Romano wrote for Caught Offside.

‘He wants Jadon to perform at a top level and the club is still protecting the player too. We have to respect the privacy of the player; he’s now back and he will have his chances.’

Ex-Man Utd defender Jaap Stam pointed out last year that Sancho “isn’t delivering yet”.

“Man United need a winger that can deliver a certain quality of football because Jadon Sancho isn’t delivering yet,” Stam said.

“To be consistent, Man United need forwards who are performing in almost every game and that’s why you need to have options because if someone isn’t performing, then you’re able to bring someone else in who can.”

During the same report from Romano, it is revealed that United are ‘looking for right-backs’.

He confirms that Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong has been on their ‘list’ since October and he ‘remains there for sure’.

‘Man United have been looking for right-backs since December and Jeremie Frimpong was already on the list in October/November,’ Romano added.

‘He remains there for sure, but no update on Pavard at this stage. Talks will depend on Wan-Bissaka’s future.’
