Chelsea’s new winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been described by former Chelsea player Guy Poyet as being the man to fill Eden Hazard’s boots at Stamford Bridge.

Ukrainian winger Mudryk  for £89m in January and has yet to score a Premier League goal.

But in an interview with The Evening Standard, Gus Poyet claimed Mudryk will come good.

Poyet described Mudryk as “Explosive, direct, very, very quick,

“He’s the type of player that needs to make a difference.

“The job Mudryk will have in the future is what Eden Hazard did at Chelsea — he’s that type of player and the potential is there. Ninety-nine per cent of the time, you don’t sign that quantity of players in January. That was the biggest surprise for me.

“If we analyse the players they bought, there is definitely a plan. They are players that have been signed for the future. The new message is patience.”

Under the new ownership of American Todd Boehly, Chelsea spent a record £323 million on new signings, including Mudryk, French defender Benoit Badiashile, Portugal star Joao Felix and a Premier League record of .

Poyet said: “The whole world is taking advantage of the Premier League,

“Clubs all over the world know the financial power is in the Premier League.”

“Enzo Fernandez is a terrific player. The transfer of Jorginho [to Arsenal] was something planned. Who better in that position after the World Cup than Enzo? He was one of the revelations of the World Cup, without doubt. And Joao Felix is a player I absolutely love. He’s a terrific player.”

Despite the bank-breaking transfer spend, Chelsea are currently in the bottom half of the Premier League, and after a poor run of results, culminating in a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Poyet, who played for Chelsea between 1997 and 2001, told the Evening Standard: “For a team like Chelsea, I don’t believe in transition years.

“Every time you aim for less than that, you are not part of a winning mentality.”

Chelsea have the chance to get their season back on track when they face fellow strugglers Liverpool tonight, and new signings Mudryk and Fernandez will be hoping to live up to their price tags.
