Chelsea should appoint club legend Frank Lampard on a permanent basis over their top target who ‘knows nothing about the club or our league’.
Lampard made his shock return to Chelsea last week as he was made interim manager until the end of the season following the sacking of Graham Potter.
The club is currently undergoing a thorough recruitment process to decide on their next permanent boss, with
Lampard has so far overseen two games, both losses, to Wolves in the Premier League and Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
And yet, those results – which failed to yield a goal – and Lampard’s failure first time around as Chelsea manager are enough to convince good old Richard Keys that Lampard should be handed the permanent role over Nagelsmann.
‘I fail to see what Julian Nagelsmann knows that Frank Lampard doesn’t,’ Keys tweeted.
‘If it’s a straight choice between the two I’d go with the legend that knows Chelsea inside out – not someone who might have a more impressive power-point display but knows nothing about the club or our league.’
Ah yes, the importance of ‘knowing the club’, famously crucial in the appointments of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
will have done nothing to convince the owners to make Lampard’s stay permanent.
And judging by the players’ reaction to the club legend’s rallying cry ahead of the game, they’re not at all convinced either.
Wesley Fofana revealed: “He [Lampard] said play for the club, the badge and for Chelsea.
“We will prepare for the next game. We lost tonight but when you see the game it is OK, as 2-0 isn’t the worst. There are positives to take.
“It is hard for everybody as one coach comes in, he leaves and then another coach arrives.
“It is important to try our best for everyone to win more games. it is complicated, of course, the Champions League is the biggest competition and we will still try to win it.”
Richard Keys has accused Jurgen Klopp of “killing” Liverpool as his “ill-judged” error has contributed to their downfall during the run-in.
Julian Nagelsmann’s agent has handed Man Utd a boost while revealing his client’s future will be decided in the next week.
Frank Lampard is in the frame for an important international job and Liverpool have finally acted amidst Real Madrid’s interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold.
According to reports, a ‘drastic change’ in the summer managerial merry-go-round has boosted Liverpool as they face competition for Ruben Amorim.
Pep Guardiola has issued a sarcastic response to criticism of his animated conversation with Jack Grealish after Man City drew with Arsenal.
Richard Keys has accused Xabi Alonso of “bottling” the Liverpool job and the presenter is keen to “question the size of his cojones’.
