Jose Mourinho ‘delivered remarkable offer’ by West Ham to replace David Moyes

Jose Mourinho has been ‘delivered a remarkable offer’ by West Ham to replace David Moyes as manager, according to reports.

The Hammers sit just one point above the relegation zone and Moyes is under pressure at the London Stadium from he fans, who expected more having seen their club spend £170m on new players in the summer.

The West Ham owners have come out in support of Moyes but LaRoma24.it (via Sport Witness) claim the club has identified Mourinho as a possible replacement should the current boss be shown the door.

The report claims ‘England calls’ Mourinho, who has managed Chelsea (in two spells), Manchester United and Tottenham in the Premier League.

West Ham are said to have taken concrete steps and ‘delivered a remarkable offer’ to land Mourinho.

It’s claimed that although Mourinho is flattered by the ‘rich contract’ and West Ham project, his focus remains on Roma, with whom he is under contract until the summer of 2024.

Rafa Benitez, Ange Postecoglu and Mauricio Pochettino are the other managers linked with the West Ham job, with the next few games thought to be key to Moyes’ future.

Their two games against AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League are split by the visit of Aston Villa in the Premier League.

West Ham lost 4-0 to Brighton last time out, and Moyes said after the game that he understood the frustation of the fans calling for his head.

“It wasn’t good, we’ve not played well,’ the Hamers boss said. “We let ourselves down. It’s certainly one of the worst (results) in the time I’ve been here and I’d have to say probably one of the worst performances as well.

“I totally understand (the chants). They (the fans) have been watching a really good team for the last three years, a team that has been finishing sixth and seventh in the Premier League, a team that has got to the semi-final of Europe, a team that has topped the group in Europe again so I understand it’s hard to come and watch that performance today.

“I would hope the fans have seen enough in the last few years to have hope.”
