Boehly’s ‘weird’ rant leaves one player ‘disillusioned’ after being singled out by the Chelsea owner

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has left one player ‘disillusioned’ with life at Stamford Bridge after singling him out during a post-match rant, according to reports.

The American businessman has overseen a turbulent first year in charge of the club with the Blues currently on their third manager of his reign.

Thomas Tuchel was replaced by Graham Potter earlier in the season before the former Brighton’s boss’ record of 12 wins in 31 matches saw the Chelsea board sack him and put Frank Lampard in caretaker charge until the end of the campaign.

Lampard has also got off to a terrible start with three losses in his first three matches to Wolves, Real Madrid and Brighton with Chelsea currently 11th in the Premier League.

And reports emerged yesterday that Boehly entered the Chelsea dressing room after to deliver a ‘rallying pep talk’.

It is understood that Boehly described the current league position of the club as and made it clear that Chelsea ‘had spent £600 million in the transfer market to win and that they have been falling short of expectations’.

And now The Guardian add more meat to the bones with an insider telling the newspaper that ‘the whole thing was weird’ with the post-match rant lasting ‘about an hour’.

The Guardian continued:

‘It is understood one senior player, signed for a large fee in the past 12 months, was singled out for heavy criticism. That player, whose identity is not being disclosed, is believed to be disillusioned with the situation and cut a disgruntled figure in training before Chelsea attempt to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg against Madrid.’

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga insists that it is quite normal for an owner to make their feelings clear, he said: “Todd comes to the changing room in every game. He had different chats with us after different games. I am not going to say what he said. It is normal when he came.”

And Lampard has insisted he has no problem with Chelsea board members coming into the dressing room.

The caretaker boss said: “There may have been some criticism of our old owner for not coming to games, not being around, and that wasn’t always true to be fair.

“But when an owner is invested in their interest in the team and wants to help and improve, it’s their prerogative to have the input they want. I remember the moments as a player of owners first coming into the dressing room.

“There is no problem with it. I had my things to say after the game. If the owner comes in and wants to be positive and speak to the players, then I think it is his part to do that.”
