VfL Wolfsburg are out of the DFB Cup in the toughest circumstances imaginable. Head coach Niko Kovac’s team went down late on Tuesday evening in the round of 16, losing 1-0 after extra time away to Borussia Mönchengladbach, sending them out of the competition.

In front of a crowd of 39,827 fans at the Borussia-Park, the 90 minutes of regulation time ended goalless. VfL were then by far the better team in extra time but were caught cold in the 120th minute, with Manu Kone finishing off a counter-attack for the only goal of the game.

VfL will be back in action in the Bundesliga on Saturday 9 December (kick-off: 15.30 CET), when they play their penultimate home game of the calendar year against SC Freiburg at the Volkswagen Arena.
