There has been a change in the VfL Wolfsburg Fußball-GmbH supervisory board. Dr. Sebastian Rudolph, head of global group communications at Volkswagen AG, joins the committee with immediate effect, replacing Murat Aksel. Rudolph will also become a member of the Bundesliga club’s supervisory board executive committee.

Frank Witter, chairman of the VfL Wolfsburg supervisory board, welcomed the new member: “We’re looking forward to working with Sebastian Rudolph. As a big football fan and experienced communications professional, he’ll certainly have an important impact at VfL.”

“I’m pleased about this new challenge and the trust that has been placed in me,” said Rudolph, 46. “The club represents Volkswagen and its values in sport. The triad of the company, club and city are doing important work for the site and the region. We need to continue the VfL men’s team’s upward momentum while also strengthening the qualities of the women’s team going forward. In addition, VfL’s exemplary social commitment will be in my field of vision.”

Since September 2022, Rudolph has held the dual role of head of global group communications at Volkswagen AG and vice president of communications, sustainability and politics at Porsche AG. The trained journalist came from industrial services provider Bilfinger. Before that, Rudolph managed communications at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure for more than six years. A political scientist with a doctorate, he spent the first seven years of his career as a TV journalist for ARD, Bayerischer Rundfunk and n-tv.

Aksel moved to Munich on 1 January 2023 to take up a role as chief procurement officer at MAN Truck & Bus SE. Witter said: “We thank Murat Aksel for his great service and passion for football.”
