“Johannes has lots of expertise in several interesting fields, so we’re pleased that he will be joining us, particularly when you consider that he had several different opportunities available to him. We’re really happy that he’s chosen to come to Werder. There are a number of huge and complex challenges in professional football, which is why we want to spread out our work across several people to set Werder Bremen up well for the future,” explained Frank Baumann, sporting director.
“I’m looking forward to this special and exciting challenge at Werder Bremen. I made the conscious decision to join Werder and I hope I can provide a fresh impetus with my experience and expertise. After exciting and construction discussions, I’m looking forward to working with Clemens Fritz, Frank Baumann, Ole Werner and all my new colleagues,” said Johannes Jahns.
Clemens Fritz will take over more responsibility from Frank Baumann in the future. “All financial and personnel decisions regarding the first team have been made by me up until now. I will be passing most of that on to Clemens now, who will take on more responsibility in his day-to-day role here. He will continue to be the face of the club, alongside our head coach, and will still be available for media requests. As well as this, Clemens will be shaping the development of the club’s conceptual and strategic direction. He will obviously remain a big part of the scouting and recruitment process, and will continue to help plan the squad,” stated Baumann.
“Being responsible for everything to do with the first team, including the budget and the development of the club’s strategy, is an important step for my personal development. I’m pleased that we will gain an experienced colleague in Johannes Jahns, with whom we can make Werder Bremen’s future successful,” stated Clemens Fritz.
Frank Baumann is hoping Fritz and Jahns will quickly begin a successful cooperation together. “Aside from his experience, Johannes will also provide us with a fresh impulse for the squad and transfers. Johannes, Clemens, Ole Werner and I will work closely together on transfers in the future. I’m confident that this team, with all its expertise, will make the best possible decisions for Werder. We will decide upon Clemens and Johannes’ exact job titles in the coming weeks. That is because we are currently re-organising certain structures and job titles at the club, and are still in the planning phase of that.”
