Bruno Labbadia will again be without Serhou Guirassy (adductor tear) against the Wolves – the VfB head coach didn’t want to give a date for the striker’s return yet. “Serhou has a sensitive injury. We’re treating it carefully, taking little steps each day and seeing how far we can go.” Pascal Stenzel (muscle tear) joined in with parts of team training on Wednesday, while Enzo Millot has also returned to training after suffering from a fever earlier in the week.

Expecting a battle of attrition

Attacking moves and finishing were two areas of focus in training this week ahead of the home meeting with the Wolves. “We need a good day against Wolfsburg,” said Labbadia. “VfL are one of the most hard-running and compact teams in the league. The team have found themselves, they’re well attuned and have quick transitional play. We’ll have to be patient on Saturday to get the better of VfL. We’ll be tested in all areas – both with and without the ball.”

The VfB boss is counting on the players who come off the bench to help with that. “It’s important that the players who come off the bench also have an impact. That worked well against Bayern and Frankfurt,” added Labbadia. VfB will play the match in their new “Diversity 22/23” special kit.
