VfB produced a good performance overall in their friendly against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, coming away with a deserved 4-1 win in a game in which Dan-Axel Zagadou made his first appearance since suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
Reaction:
Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “Overall, I’m feeling satisfied and positive after the game. The lads had the right attitude. I’m especially pleased that Dan-Axel Zagadou is back after being out for such a long time with injury. He played for exactly 30 minutes, which was what we’d planned for him. It was equally positive that Josha Vagnoman and Luca Raimund got some more minutes in their legs too.”
Goals:
1-0 – 35th minute: Vagnoman drives forward down the left and gets into the box before squaring the ball to Pascal Stenzel, who elegantly beats Lautern goalkeeper Avdo Spahic for the opening goal.
2-0 – 67th minute: Substitute Leonhard Münst is brought down inside the area, giving VfB a penalty. Jamie Leweling confidently buries it in the right-hand corner.
3-0 – 72nd minute: VfB youngster Münst is denied by Spahic with his initial shot at goal, but he reacts quickly to prod the rebound over the line.
4-0 – 83rd minute: Münst is involved yet again, holding his nerve inside the box to put VfB 4-0 up with a shot inside the far post.
4-1 – 87th minute: Kaiserslautern get forward quickly on the counter and Jannik Mause coolly chips the ball into the net.
