A difficult run of fixtures is reaching its climax. By the time VfB Stuttgart face Eintracht Frankfurt at the MHP Arena at 17:30 CET on Sunday, they will have played seven matches in the space of just 23 days. The visit of the Eagles is the final big test of that difficult run, and VfB are determined to get another three points before enjoying a quieter spell during the forthcoming international break.
VfB determined to win on home soil
“We’ve worked hard to ensure we end this tough run of games on a real high,” head coach Sebastian Hoeneß said at Friday’s pre-match press conference. “Against Frankfurt, we want to gather all our strength again so that together, we can put ourselves in a good position ahead of our remaining games of the year.”
Hoeneß is satisfied with his team’s performances in recent weeks, and with how his players have risen to the challenges facing them – which is why the head coach and his charges are relishing Sunday’s clash with third-place Eintracht.
“Frankfurt are doing very well. Their results show that. Frankfurt have incredible pace and in Omar #Marmoush, a player who is probably the hottest property in Europe at the moment,” added Hoeneß.
Deniz Undav was fit enough to train on his own on Friday morning after suffering a thigh strain in midweek, but a decision on the striker’s fitness will be made nearer the time. Jeff Chabot, Leonidas Stergiou and Justin Diehl are available again, but Jamie Leweling, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Luca Raimund are definitely out.
