Match summary:

In a dramatic contest, Ermedin Demirovic missed a 22nd-minute penalty for Sebastian Hoeneß’s side before Hugo Ekitiké put the visitors 1-0 up in the 45th minute.

Further goals from Nathaniel Brown (55’) and Omar Marmoush (62’) gave Eintracht a three-goal advantage just after the half-hour mark, but VfB never let their heads drop and showed great character to claw themselves back into the match.

Josha Vagnoman made it 3-1 in the 86th minute before Nick Woltemade pulled another goal back four minutes later. In an astonishing conclusion to the contest, Chris Führich thought he had made it 3-3 deep into added time (90’+7) but his effort was disallowed for offside.

Goals:

44th minute: VfB fall behind. Frankfurt’s Marmoush swings a corner into the area, where Ekitiké powers a header into the net from around five metres.

55th minute: Ansgar Knauff carries the ball into the area and shows good composure to feed Brown, who sweeps home Eintracht’s second.

62nd minute: Marmoush’s free-kick from 20 metres out finds the top left corner. Frankfurt lead 3-0.

86th minute: Führich tees up Vagnoman, who lets fly from outside the area. His shot takes a deflection on its way into the far corner to make it 3-1.

90th minute: 3-2! Angelo Stiller’s header finds Woltemade, who turns his marker before firing home from close range.

Special mentions:

Justin Diehl made his comeback from a dislocated shoulder, replacing Fabian Rieder in the 61st minute.

Woltemade’s late effort was his first Bundesliga goal for Stuttgart.

VfB slipped to their first home defeat in the top flight since October 2023.
