Record against Dortmund

Overall: 115 games, 43 wins, 24 draws, 48 defeats. 185:202 goal difference.

Looking back

Earlier in the season, VfB fell to a 5-0 defeat in Dortmund. The last victory over BVB dates back to December 2020, when Silas (2), Philipp Förster, Tanguy Coulibaly and Nicolas Gonzalez all found the net in a 5-1 away win.

We meet again

BVB have two goalkeepers with a Stuttgart past in Gregor Kobel (65 matches for VfB) and Alexander Meyer (four appearances for the reserves). VfB acquired Dan-Axel Zagadou last summer from Dortmund, for whom he made 92 appearances. “Daxo” has since gone on to make 11 outings in a VfB shirt.

Classic contest

The 4-4 draw in March 2011, when VfB captain Christian Gentner equalised in injury time against the team that would go on to win the Bundesliga that year, has lived long in the memory of many a football fan.

First home game

New VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß takes charge of his first home match on Saturday.

Treatment room

Hoeneß will be without Luca Pfeiffer, who is suffering from an infection, and Nikolas Nartey (still returning to full fitness) against Dortmund. BVB meanwhile will definitely have to do without Nico Schlotterbeck (muscle tear), Mateu Morey (returning to fitness after a knee operation) and mid-season recruit Julien Duranville (thigh muscle injury), and it remains to be seen whether Marius Wolf (illness) and Niklas Süle (muscle issues) will be available.
