The 10 days in Shanghai are over, and the U17s returned from their trip to the world’s third-largest city in Monday. On the sporting front, their record in the Shanghai Future Star Cup reads: five games, three wins, two defeats and fifth place in the prestigious U18 tournament.
Impressive position
“To finish fifth at such a big, international U18 tournament is a good thing for us,” said coach Daniel Jungwirth. “Testing ourselves against teams from other countries has definitely benefited us in our development.”
Tim Boldt claims Golden Boot
With seven goals, VfB forward Tim Boldt was the top scorer at the tournament and received the Golden Boot.
Cultural experiences
The trip to the Far East was also hugely valuable to the VfB youngsters off the pitch. During their 10 days in Shanghai, the players gained first-hand experience of Chinese culture, their language, lifestyles and customs. The programme included various cultural activities such as a visit to the City God Temple, which represents Chinese folk beliefs, and the more than 400-year-old Yu Garden in the old town.
