The winless streak in Augsburg is over. Lee’s dramatic header in 93rd minute gave his side all three points at the WWK-Arena for this first time in nearly six years. It took fight, spirit, smart substitutions and a strong performance.

Reaction to dramatic win in Augsburg:

Karim Onisiwo: “That’s the exact move we have worked on in training. The two number tens behind me look for the link-up, I play it back from the long ball and they look to play it from deep again. The space opened up in behind, I ran through and kept my cool in front of goal. I’m a lot more efficient than I was last year but I still need to take more chances. We lost our concentration a little bit and then they equalised. You can’t afford to do that. This isn’t an easy place to come and it is difficult to create lots of chances. We need to be more composed when we take the lead. It’s of course amazing that we won the game in the last minute and we have made a great start to the season with our seven points. Our feet need to remain on the ground but we can be proud of what we have achieved.”

Alexander Hack: “It was an important victory today. We haven’t won in Augsburg for what feels like an eternity. We should’ve maybe got more here last year, but thankfully we succeed this time around. We started the game well, we didn’t allow them to do too much and we deserved the three points. It feels good to win here. We’d have won the game even sooner if we were just a bit tighter at the back. The first three games have been intense but now it’s all about bringing the passion against Leverkusen to pick up the points in front of our fans.”

Jae-Sung Lee: “It’s an amazing feeling. We were all super up for it today because we have lost here so many times. We told ourselves that we have to win here today. Whether I start or come on as a sub, I always want to help the team. I completely respect the decisions of the coaches. My goal was a bit lucky but it was a super cross from Aarón.”

Martin Schmidt: “We deserved the goal at the end because across the 90 minutes we were more willing, more aggressive and we wanted it more. You could see that especially in the final half an hour. We were dominant and we kept getting into Augsburg’s penalty area. Bo made attacking substitutions that helped us win the game. Our desire to win this game has been bubbling all week and it finally came to a head in the 93rd minute.”
