Merveille Papela has extended his contract with Mainz 05 until the summer of 2024. The 21-year-old will, however, be loaned to SV Sandhausen for the rest of the 2022/23 season, in order to gain more experience.
“It is important for Merveille to pick up the playing time that he needs in order to further his development and to take the next steps in his career. We are convinced that he will take on an important role in Sandhausen, that he will be even stronger when he returns and that he will be an important player for Mainz 05 in the future. We have therefore not included an option to buy in this loan deal.”
The academy product has been with Mainz since 2011 and has so far made six appearances in the Bundesliga and one in the DFB-Pokal. He has also made 50 appearances for the U23s in the Regionalliga Südwest.
