Lars Stindl: “The club’s got this real internal strength“

Borussia skipper Lars Stindl answered questions from the media after the Foals’ home win over VfL Bochum. The attacker who made it 2-0 to Borussia discussed his goal, the BORUSSIA-PARK atmosphere and his final few weeks at Gladbach.

Lars Stindl on…

…his final few weeks at Gladbach: When you spend so many special years at a club, it’s always going to be a bit painful as you come towards the end. Therefore, I’m trying to enjoy every moment I’ve got left here to the max, even when that’s not so easy to do at times. In particular, I’m trying to maximise my enjoyment of the time I’ve got left with the lads on the pitch and in the changing room. I’m looking forward to the last few games. Moments like today make giving absolutely everything more than worth it. It’s an amazing feeling to score in front of the fans and then celebrate a victory with them.

…the Foals’ performance against Bochum: It’s a step in the right direction that we created lots of chances today. Of course, we’d like to be a bit more accurate once when get into the box, but I was also pleased for the defence for keeping another clean sheet.

…his goal which made it 2-0 to Borussia: I had a chance just before I scored which I took with the inside of my foot, and I was annoyed to have not scored there, because that’s my preferred method of shooting. However, I finally got on the scoresheet thanks to a header and I’m really pleased to have put us two to the good. It was an important goal for us, both in the game, because it put the game to bed, and also for our current situation.

…the atmosphere at BORUSSIA-PARK against Bochum: With the support of its fans, this club’s got an incredible power and energy capable of celebrating wins like today. If we bring our A-game as a team, the fans notice that and follow suit. Today’s atmosphere was excellent. It’s always important to give everything. This club’s got an incredible energy, strength and power deeply embedded in it.

…Julian Weigl making a permanent move to Borussia: I think it’s a really strong signal from the club for the future. Retaining a player like him is significant. I think Jule can be a cornerstone of the future of the club and him staying here sends a signal to other players to come to Gladbach. Jule’s made a great impact here. He’s already picked up plenty of experience from some top teams and proven his ability in several competitions. On top of that, he’s a good lad and a positive person.

…his last home fixture at BORUSSIA-PARK in three weeks’ time: When I made my decision to leave Borussia, I looked ahead to see when my last home game at BORUSSIA-PARK would be. That time is soon upon us. However, I’m going into it with high spirits. I’m looking forward to it and am overall pleased that I’ve been able to spend so much time at this club. In addition, I’m also looking forward to going home.

Lars Stindl celebrates Borussia’s second and final goal in front of the Nordkurve.
