Eleven Foals called up for international duty

The first international break of the year is almost upon us, with eleven Borussia players selected for the respective countries. Germany head coach Hansi Flick has opted not to call up Jonas Hofmann for the upcoming friendlies against Peru and Belgium, instead using the games to give a chance to some younger players.

Both Jonas Omlin and Nico Elvedi have been called up by coach Murat Yakin for Switzerland’s upcoming European qualifiers against Belarus and Israel.

  • Saturday, 25th March, 18:00 CET in Novi Sad, Serbia: Belarus vs. Switzerland (EURO 2024 qualifying)
  • Tuesday, 28th March, 20:45 CEST in Genf: Switzerland vs. Israel (EURO 2024 qualifying)

France

Marcus Thuram keeps his spot in Didier Deschamps’ France squad following on from their World Cup campaign, and is even joined by his younger brother Kephrén from OGC Nice. The runners-up at Qatar 2022 will start their European qualifying campaign against the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland.

USA

USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter has included Joe Scally in his 24-man squad for the final two group matches in the CONCACAF Nations League against Grenada and El Salvador. The USA currently sit second and need a point more than current leaders El Salvador to progress to the finals, although Scally’s boys do have a game in hand.

  • Tuesday, 28th March, 01:30 CEST in Orlando: USA vs. El Salvador (CONCACAF Nations League)

Algeria

The Algeria national team currently top their group with six points from six in qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. They can tighten their grip on Group F with a pair of wins over second-placed Niger in March, and head coah Djamel Belmadi has called on Ramy Bensebaini‘s services.
