VfL Bochum 1848 will wear a special jersey for the last Bundesliga home game of the year against Borussia Mönchengladbach next Tuesday evening (November 8th, 2022, 8:30pm CET).  The jersey is completely black, while the sponsor lettering, jersey details and the VfL logo shine in rainbow colours.  Each special jersey of the limited edition is unique due to the numbering in the hologram.

1997 was one of the biggest in club history for VfL, with entry into the UEFA Cup and legendary and unforgettable matches against Trabzonspor, Club Brugge and Ajax Amsterdam.  But not only the games were legendary, but also the unique and quite polarizing rainbow jerseys of that time, with which Dariusz Wosz and Co. rocked Europe and which have become cult items today.  Exactly 25 years after the first UEFA Cup games, VfL are back in the colours of the rainbow.

However, historical nostalgia is not the only reason for the rainbow jersey.  As anchored in the mission statement, VfL is committed to the following values: tolerance, fair play, solidarity and equality.  Even if our colours are blue and white, we stand for a variety and are therefore actually as colourful as a rainbow, because diversity means diversity of people and life forms. It aims for the recognition and appreciation of all people, regardless of their social or ethnic origin, their gender, their sexual orientation, their religious affiliation or world view, their age, their physical, psychological or other abilities. Our (Bochumer) community stands up for human rights and provides support for people in need, demands and promotes civil courage and consistently speaks out against any form of discrimination.

Color full on the outside, blue on the inside – this is how our team will line up in the last home game in 2022 against Borussia Mönchengladbach.  What holds us together is our stadium, our colours, our values and our football as it should be, FOR EVERYONE.

The special “Rainbow” jersey will be sold via the online shop (click here to go directly to the jersey) and from tomorrow, Friday, November 4th at 10:00am, also in small quantities via the stationary fan shops in the Stadioncenter, Ruhr Park and in  the turntable (We recommend buying in the online shop, as only a limited number of jerseys of each size will be available in the stationary shops).  The jersey, which is limited to 4,630 pieces and numbered in the hologram, is available in children’s sizes 116-164 at a price of EUR 54.95 and in adult sizes S-XXXL at a price of EUR 79.95.  The back flocking with number and name is white when purchased, since the team’s original jerseys must also be played with the white flock due to recognisability in league operations.
