It’s time for the Westfalenpokal final, a Revierderby – what more could you ask for? A good three weeks after the 5-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund, VfL’s U17s now meet Schalke 04. It’s the last game of the season, the highlight of a joint journey.
We’re offering you a livestream of the match, it is available on our platform www.vfl.1848.tv!
Bochum’s path to the cup final began with the match against Spvg 20 Brakel. Against the B-Junioren Landesligisten, VfL U17s clearly won 9-0. Then followed the first home game in the competition. League rival SV Lippstadt 08 was the guest at the Hiltroper Straße. A gripping and balanced fight, with the better end for Blue-White. Substitute Luca Erdelkamp scored a brace to make the final score 4:2. In the semifinals, Borussia Dortmund was already waiting for the first district derby. In impressive fashion, the U17s shot down BVB 5:1. Mohammad Mahmoud scored four times! All in all, more than deserved that the boys of David Siebers now have the chance to win the cup.
In the B-Junioren Bundesliga West, the U17s finished the season in a strong fifth place. FC Schalke 04 finished first and can call themselves German champions in the age group after a 4-3 penalty shootout win over VfB Stuttgart. So now the Knappen have the chance to do the double. A big challenge for the Bochum team, but not impossible. In the 0:2 defeat in the league, the U17s were committed, but lacked precision in the final third. That should be different tonight.
This is what the coach says:
David Siebers: “The boys are looking forward to being able to end the last two years and this season with the final. This is truly the highlight of our time together. Schalke 04 are the favourites, of course. They have extremely high individual class and are one of the best teams in this year’s competition, not only in the West but throughout Germany. However, we are counting on something. It is exactly one game. We’ve won every game in the cup so far, just like Schalke. I have a good feeling we’ll win today.”
