Thomas Reis (Head Coach VfL Bochum 1848): Congratulations to Urs Fischer and 1. FC Union Berlin on the win. We had big problems in the first half. We had planned to find spaces and pull Union out of shape. Unfortunately, we didn’t succeed. When we conceded the goal, you could see the quality of Max Kruse. Not everyone can hit it that well. In the second half, we played better and had clear scoring chances. We have to make the most of them against Union to take something home. It’s difficult to sum up the first half of the season immediately after the game. But basically, 20 points is a great result after the first half of the season.

Urs Fischer (Head Coach, 1. FC Union Berlin): That was a very important win for us. The three points bring us a bit closer to our goal. From my point of view, the first half clearly goes to us. We did what we set out to do. We didn’t allow a single goal-scoring chance and could have led by a lot. In the second half, the game was evenly balanced. Bochum really pressed hard at times and came very close to equalizing every now and then. In moments like this, you need the necessary competitive luck and we had that today.

Sebastian Schindzielorz (Director of Sport VfL Bochum 1848): Union had a clear chance to score, which they exploited superbly. They were brutally effective. In the second half, we had two or three very good opportunities. Unfortunately, we didn’t take advantage of them. We have to accept that, collect ourselves now and then we’ll go on in January. It’s not a good feeling to lose two games in a row. But we have to take the positives from the first half of the season and look ahead. We showed in the course of the first half that we are competitive and can win games. We have to back that up in the second half of the season.

Sebastian Polter: It’s bitter. We lost a game at home that we wanted to win. We wanted to finish the first half of the season with three points to have a nice Christmas. But still, we can draw a positive conclusion with 20 points after the first half of the season. We must not let ourselves be dragged down by the recent results. It’s important that we get off to a great start in the second half of the season after the break.

Milos Pantovic: It’s a shame that it went like this. We had more in mind and wanted to get at least one point here. Unfortunately, we didn’t succeed. But we don’t need to talk down the first half of the season because we lost the last two games. 20 points is absolutely fine. Nevertheless, the disappointment immediately after the game is naturally great. After the winter break, we want to come back stronger.
