“Maybe the saying is right”

Michael Zetterer came to Bremen as a teenager. By now he has spent the majority of his footballing career at Werder. The 27-year-old goalkeeper has once again extended his contract with the Green-Whites. In an interview with WERDER.DE, Zetterer spoke about why he feels at home at SVW, what the toughest time in his career was and his future plans.

Up against a “top Frankfurt team” at the weekend

Werder will have their hands full on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Frankfurt to take on a tough Eintracht side (Saturday, 18th February, 18:30 CET). The reverse fixture was an intense, enthralling encounter and the fans inside the wohninvest WESERSTADION were treated to seven goals as Eintracht ran out 4-3 winners. Ole Werner faced the media Thursday afternoon to discuss what he believes will be a “hard-fought contest.”

Looking for the “perfect day”

After their 2-0 defeat to BVB last time out, Ole Werner’s side have another tough test ahead them in the form of a trip to Champions League participants Eintracht Frankfurt (Saturday, 18th February, 18:30 CET). SGE are currently in sixth place, but close to the teams above. Head coach Ole Werner knows that it is no easy task for Werder: “They are a top team, so we will need to have a perfect day.”

An early own goal leads to Werder defeat in Frankfurt

Werder Bremen suffered their second defeat in a row. The Green-Whites were beaten 2-0 (1-0) by Eintracht Frankfurt, who are in the last sixteen of the Champions League, in front of 48,000 spectators. SVW captain Marco Friedl started the defeat with an unfortunate own goal (7’). A few minutes after the restart, SGE’s prolific goal-scorer Randal Kolo Muani cemented the host’s victory (52’). Werder now drop to tenth in the Bundesliga with 27 points.

“Overall we lacked quality and intensity”

SV Werder Bremen did not give too much to the Frankfurt side, which is strong in attack, on Saturday evening, but were not penetrative enough themselves to take away any points at the end. Groß returns to team training, others miss out

Christian Groß returned to the training ground on Tuesday following his illness. Marvin Ducksch (migraine), Niklas Stark (ill), Dikeni Salifou, who trained individually, (calf) and Tim-Justin Dietrich (knee) were absent from the team session.

“I’m trying to go my own way”

Things have been going well for Niklas Schmidt at SVW since the end of the winter break. The attacking midfielder has been on the pitch for at least 45 minutes in every game since the season restart and played the full match in the last encounter with Eintracht Frankfurt. He has been in the starting line-up four times in 2023. “I am happy that I have started lots of games since the start. I am trying to go my own way,” said Schmidt to the media on Wednesday.

Werder to play Heeslinger SC in friendly

The first of two friendlies after the final Bundesliga game before the season break has been confirmed. Werder will take on fifth-tier side Heeslinger SC on Tuesday, 15th November. The game will kick off at 19:00 CET in Heeslingen.

Werder win thanks to late goal

SVW won under the floodlights on Friday evening against Hertha BSC at the wohninvest WESERSTADION. Thanks to Niclas Füllkrug’s late goal (85’), Werder won a disjointed game full of interruptions. Overall, SVW had the better chances, but could find the net in the first half. The second half was just as disjointed as the first with plenty of players ending up on the floor for most of the time. In the end, Werder were able to secure the win and climb back up the table.

“We played professionally, maturely and very patiently”

After a difficult week where Werder suffered three consecutive defeats, the Green-Whites turned their slide around with a win over Hertha BSC on Friday evening. Niclas Füllkrug’s late header gave Werder victory in what had been a tight and cagey affair. “It was a good and mature performance. The goal was the only difference between two very even teams,” explained head coach Ole Werner after the game.
