“Overall we lacked quality and intensity”
SV Werder Bremen did not give too much to the Frankfurt side, which is strong in attack, on Saturday evening, but were not penetrative enough themselves to take away any points at the end. The Green-Whites therefore had to admit that the 2-0 defeat against Eintracht was deserved. Here is what head coach Ole Werner and the players said in assessment of the match.

“I’m trying to go my own way”
Things have been going well for Niklas Schmidt at SVW since the end of the winter break. The attacking midfielder has been on the pitch for at least 45 minutes in every game since the season restart and played the full match in the last encounter with Eintracht Frankfurt. He has been in the starting line-up four times in 2023. “I am happy that I have started lots of games since the start. I am trying to go my own way,” said Schmidt to the media on Wednesday.

Werder win thanks to late goal
SVW won under the floodlights on Friday evening against Hertha BSC at the wohninvest WESERSTADION. Thanks to Niclas Füllkrug’s late goal (85’), Werder won a disjointed game full of interruptions. Overall, SVW had the better chances, but could find the net in the first half. The second half was just as disjointed as the first with plenty of players ending up on the floor for most of the time. In the end, Werder were able to secure the win and climb back up the table.
“We played professionally, maturely and very patiently”
After a difficult week where Werder suffered three consecutive defeats, the Green-Whites turned their slide around with a win over Hertha BSC on Friday evening. Niclas Füllkrug’s late header gave Werder victory in what had been a tight and cagey affair. “It was a good and mature performance. The goal was the only difference between two very even teams,” explained head coach Ole Werner after the game.
Finding a way to get back on track together
Friday evening, under the floodlights, in front of a sold-out crowd: the chance to put last week’s result out of our memory could not be any better. Hertha Berlin are the opponents stepping into the wohninvest WESERSTADION this Friday evening (28.10.22, 20:30 CEST). In the press conference ahead of the game, Ole Werner emphasised how important team spirit is, just as getting results have been slipping away from the team. “It is a fundamental for us to know that we can solve the many things which we face in the Bundesliga as a group.”

Agu with longer spell on sidelines, Rapp back in training
SV Werder will continue to be without Felix Agu for the upcoming weeks. The 23-year-old will be out until the season restart in the new year with a patella injury. “Felix has been suffering with it for a while now, but he’s faced it head on and has himself available for the team. We want him to have a break now so that he can return in the new year,” said head coach Ole Werner.
