The outlook for VfL Wolfsburg’s meeting with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night (kick-off 18:30 CET) is anything but gloomy. BVB may be unbeaten in six games in all competitions, but the Wolves have also picked up a head of steam lately, having not lost in seven outings.
Even the weather gods seemed to be up against BVB in the build-up to the game: freezing temperatures and snowfall made it impossible for the game to be played in the youth team’s stadium, so the match had to be moved to pitch 4 on the training ground. Head coach Thomas Sulewski made one change to the starting line-up from the Ahlen game, with Nora Rechenbach replacing Hanna Hentrich.

On Saturday 22nd April at 15:30 (CEST), SV Werder will face Hertha BSC away from home. SVW want to earn an important away win in the meeting with direct rivals in the fight to remain in the league. “For us, it’s about not letting up and continuing to work hard. Even in a situation like this, we should look at the positive side,” said Ole Werner at the press conference on Thursday.

Alongside the injured Rafał Gikiewicz and Mergim Berisha, FCA head coach Enrico Maaßen was also without captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, who picked up his 10th yellow card of the season last time out in Leipzig and was suspended. Ermedin Demirović returned from his ban for the game and started the game with Ruben Vargas. Felix Uduokhai wore the captain’s armband.

Streich and his coaching staff made one change to the team which started the 4-0 win against Schalke 04 last weekend, as Maxi Eggestein replaced the suspended Yannik Keitel. Steffen Baumgart kept the same Köln side as which started their 3-1 win over Hoffenheim last time out, which officially secured their safety for another season.
The start of a new week of training likely causes conflicting feelings amongst Hertha fans. A home game on the weekend is reason to get excited about the upcoming home support, while away games bring a sense of frustration at not having been able to deliver the same standard of performance. This time, with a home game against RB Leipzig coming up (08.04.23, 18:30 CEST), the mood is different, however. Hertha are able to draw confidence from what was a strong showing away in Freiburg last time out (1-1). “It was important for us to deliver a strong performance on the road, like we have done at home, in order to take something from the game. We can build on this,” Sandro Schwarz said, calling it a “solid and focused” performance. “The key will be to bring this tactical discipline in our upcoming eight games, no matter if home or away!”
