“There was so much bad luck for us today” – #VfBBMG post-match reaction

Following the Foals’ 2-1 defeat away to VfB Stuttgart, borussia.de has all the reaction from Julian Weigl, Jonas Omlin, Borussia coach Daniel Farke and Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeneß.

Julian Weigl: We expected a lot from this game, so it’s even more annoying that we had a poor first half and went into the break 1-0 down. We started the second half well, but creating chances was tough. We had to work to win our penalty. The worst thing today was the fact that we lost concentration immediately after the equaliser, got a man sent off and conceded a penalty. When you work so hard to equalise, you simply have to be more aware of the fact that you need to survive the next few minutes without conceding a goal.

Jonas Omlin: There was so much bad luck for us today. Stuttgart did well in the first half – we were off the pace and didn’t get into tackles well enough. We changed things at half time and were able to put more pressure on and found our way through with the penalty from Julian Weigl. It was a bit unlucky to concede the penalty for their winner. I haven’t seen the moment back yet, but I think it was a very harsh decision. It was tough to come back once again with a man down.

Daniel Farke: We’re obviously disappointed with the result. The first half was tight. Both teams had phases where they caused their opponents problems in controlling their own game. We were missing that final touch of energy and fight in both penalty areas, which meant we weren’t able to create many clear goalscoring chances. We lacked concentration in one defensive situation and conceded the opening goal. We fought back into the game with lots of passion and energy, and forced the equaliser. The momentum was on our side, but then we lost the ball stupidly and let Stuttgart counter, which led to the red card and penalty. We tried all we could with a man down until the last second, but the final moment in front of goal was missing.

Sebastian Hoeneß: This is a massive win for us. We saw two strong teams in the first half, but ones who didn’t have the bite they would have wanted off the ball. Gladbach are always a side who can create chances with good football, which they showed – it was generally a pretty even game. We had a small advantage in terms of the number of chances, but we have to admit that we could’ve played one or two chances out a bit better. We weren’t quite as focused after the break, but remained stable nevertheless. The equaliser was a tough one to take, because it was their first real goalscoring chance, but the reaction the team showed was fantastic. After retaking the lead, we could’ve also got a third. I think that means we deserved and earned the win, all things considered.
