Home Bundesliga clash with Arminia Bielefeld

Three days after the UEFA Europa Conference League loss in Prague, 1. FC Union Berlin put a solid fight to threaten Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park. Goals in the second half from Max Kruse and Andreas Voglsammer pulled the score back to 2-3 with Union on top in the final period of the match. Borussia Dortmund took a three-goal lead shortly after the restart of the second half with goals in both halves from Raphael Guerreiro, Erling Haaland and an own goal from Marvin Friedrich. Union’s character came to the fore and two goals put Marco Rose’s team under serious pressure. But Norwegian marksman Haaland finished off a superb lob, a minute or so after Voglsammer’s header to put the contest beyond doubt.

Terzic: “An absolute top performance from start to finish!”

Edin Terzic (at the press conference): “We produced an absolute top performance from start to finish and not only scored many nice goals but also kept a clean sheet as a team. It was great to watch the way the lads played football with each other. Then it’s difficult for any opponent, especially when we’re playing here in our own stadium. This was a good step. If we go into the remaining three matches with the same willingness, we’ll have good chances of picking up wins then too.”

SC Freiburg: Constant development into a top team

A cup final in 2022, a cup semi-final and a UEFA Europa League last-16 tie last season, plus sixth and fifth-place Bundesliga finishes in the last two campaigns – SC Freiburg are now among the top teams in the Bundesliga. The successes of the past two years have also led to changes in the squad structure: the club have kept hold of top players like Philipp Lienhart and Ritsu Doan, with the many departures that would have once followed a good season no longer the norm.
