1. FC Union Berlin’s home match on Saturday against Arminia Bielefeld will go ahead as planned on a “3G” basis. Despite the Senate of Berlin approving the option of “2G” as part of the 3rd Infection Protection Regulations, this cannot be implemented.

The 2G option “is intended to open up the possibility of making events accessible only to vaccinated and recovered persons which in return removes provisions from the Infection Protection Regulations.”

However, according to the version of the regulations, under the 2G option, “no people shall be present in the premises of the establishment or event” who do not comply with the 2G rule (§8 and §8a of the regulations).

As well as supporters, this regulations also covers Union staff, the personnel deployed from all of the service providers, authorities, associations and the visiting team on matchday. At the moment, only children under the age of 12 with a negative test result are exempt from this regulation. There is not yet a regulation for people who cannot and should not be vaccinated.

Due to the lack of alternatives for this group of people — the regulation states that people who cannot meet the 2G prerequisite are refused admission — this option cannot be implemented by 1. FC Union Berlin. As such, Saturday’s home game against Bielefeld will go ahead which accomodates vaccinated, recovered and a negative test result. The full health and safety measures can be found here.

The Test Centre at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei will be open from 7.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday.

All of the ticket information can be found here.
