TSG Hoffenheim

The first Bundesliga player at Hoffenheim

Over the years, several big names have tied their laces for TSG Hoffenheim: Roberto Firmino, Andrej Kramarić, Joelinton, Niklas Süle and Oliver Baumann are just a few notable examples. But long before Hoffenheim joined the Bundesliga, there were already some big names wearing the TSG shirt. One of the first players who was also known outside of the region was Alfred Schön. The former Bundesliga player ended his career, after 210 first league and 159 second league games (including playing for SV Waldhof Mannheim and AS Nancy in France), in the Kraichgau.

The DFB’s sports tribunal has given Werder captain Marco Friedl a two-match suspension due to unsportsmanlike conduct following his red card against 1. FSV Mainz 05. The 26-year-old will therefore miss both the home game against FC Bayern München and the away game at TSG Hoffenheim.

SV Werder now turn their attention to Saturday’s highly-anticipated clash, as they host FC Bayern München at the Weserstadion (21st September, 15:30 CEST). Mitchell Weiser will have fond memories of the most recent clash between the sides, having scored the winning goal in Munich back then. He spoke to the media during Wednesday’s Mixed Zone and previewed the match.

Thorup: “Work hard when not in possession”

“The win was exactly the reaction that I’d hoped for,” said head coach Jess Thorup during today’s pre-match press conference. He was especially pleased with the number of chances his side created during their 3-1 win against St. Pauli, although he added that he’d like to see them convert more of them. Mainz are still waiting for their first win of the season, with Thorup commenting that his team will need to “work hard when not in possession.” He added, “They are a very tough opponent that press hard and are strong physically, as well as mentally.”
