SV Werder Bremen

Hard fight rewarded with first win of the season!

SV Werder were able to celebrate their first league win of the season away in Mainz on Sunday evening. Marvin Ducksch put the Green-Whites ahead from the spot (7’), before FSV were able to equalise after an unfortunate miscommunication between Zetterer and Stark (27’). Despite Marco Friedl being sent off (60’), the Green-Whites never gave up hope and saw their efforts rewarded. Substitute Derrick Köhn scored just 125 seconds after coming on for his competitive debut (69’) to put Werder 2-1 up and secure their first win this Bundesliga season.

Bundesliga Best XI and Worst XI…see which Bayern Munich players made the lists

There was inconsistency on the pitch, a coaching change, turmoil off the field, a front office nuke job, and just an overall sense that things were not nearly as good as they could have been for large swaths of the season.

FCA to again release Lars Knudsen to take charge of the Danish national team

FC Augsburg will again release the 47-year-old Dane for the upcoming international games in October. Knudsen will deputise once more for interim coach Morten Wieghorst, who at least is well enough again to return to the coaching team and will act initially as the assistant coach. Knudsen recorded two wins from his first two games as interim coach, beating both Switzerland and Serbia 2-0.

Lothar Matthäus in favor of Bayern Munich signing Declan Rice from West Ham United

Without an extension in place, this would be the last summer window that West Ham could offload Rice for a considerable fee that they could use to reinvest in the squad. A transfer fee in excess of 100-million is not very Bayern-like, per se, but Tuchel and the board are sold on him being an excellent fit for the midfield in the number 6 role that Tuchel wants to fill.

Haaland is Man City’s cheat code; Mbappé is Mbappé again

One player who might have something to say about the battle to be today’s greatest No. 9 is Kylian Mbappé. While he may have gotten off to a slow start in the Spanish capital, the France captain is beginning to look like the great Galactico signing Real Madrid have waited so long for.

Weekend Warm-up: No country for old men — can Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß recapture the magic at Baye…

The termination of Nagelsmann was so terribly managed and Bush-League that the club did not want to risk any further damage to its reputation, so it called for a reboot, sacked Kahn and Salihamidzic, and brought back Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to lead the supervisory board with Uli Hoeneß.
